Community partnerships are essential in planning and design for the Randwick Campus Redevelopment so we can deliver projects that respond to the needs of patients, carers, families, local residents and the community.

Consumers and community have been, and continue to be, a key part of the design and planning processes for the Randwick Campus Redevelopment, which incorporates the Prince of Wales Hospital Acute Services Building and the Sydney Children's Hospital Stage 1 and Minderoo Children's Comprehensive Cancer Centre.
To better understand and meet the needs of patients, families, carers and the community, the Randwick Campus Redevelopment project team has adopted the principles of co-design through consumer engagement

Consumer engagement refers to the wide range of initiatives through which we partner and engage with consumers in the planning, service delivery and evaluation of health care. With a strong commitment to ensure put patients at the centre of everything we do, the Randwick Campus Redevelopment has benefited from the community and consumer input into the design and planning for the project. Areas we have partnered with consumers and the community include designing public spaces and patient and carer lounges, art and culture, service provision, training and education, patient information and accessibility.

Prince of Wales Hospital Acute Services Building Consumer and Community Advisory Committee (CCAC)

Between 2017 - 2023, the Prince of Wales Acute Services Building CCAC was the primary body representing the interests of health care consumers and community members for this project. The CCAC ensured that a clear and diverse consumer and community voice and perspective was heard in the planning process for the Acute Services Building, which is now open.

The commitment by members, with their diverse backgrounds and common desire to contribute, brought a community focus to the delivery of the ASB allowing for a more holistic outcome - John Patterson, Former Consumer and Community Advisory Committee Chair

The CCAC partnered in the design of health facilities and care systems within the new Acute Services Building to ensure person-centred compassionate care was delivered and that the wellbeing of the patient, carer and their family was at the heart of every decision made.

Sydney Children's Hospital Stage 1 and Minderoo Comprehensive Children Cancer Centre Community and Consumer Advisory Committee (CCAC)

The Sydney Children’s Hospital Stage 1 and Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre (SCH1/MCCCC) redevelopment team is dedicated to collaborating with community members to ensure the new building and services meet the needs of patients and their families; and there have been hundreds of families consulted with over the course of the project so far.

Since 2020, the project has had a dedicated CCAC, consisting of former and current parents of patients who provide feedback on design and clinical processes. The committee has already had a substantial impact in leading the design of family-orientated spaces within the hospital.

Children also form a significant part of consumer feedback and participation through the Arts, Play and Discovery working groups.

Consultation with Bidjigal and Gadigal people and members of the broader Aboriginal community has been fundamental to co-designing the hospital. Engagement on the building’s façade and Aboriginal gathering space has been facilitated by environmental consultants Yerrabingin, with the project team working to ensure Aboriginal people are engaged at every stage of the project.
